Construction for the SCAO III Education and Community Centre in Prey Ponror is currently being tendered. Along with a number of SCAO’s international partners (Kinderhilfe in Kambodscha, Germany; The Green GECKO Project, Germany; Estrellas de camboya, Spain; and Pacha Youth Foundation, USA) SCOOP will be providing support towards the construction of the SCAO III centre.
The hinterland of Prey Ponror, located 25km north-west of the capital Phnom Penh, consists of 16 smaller villages, which are all accessible by bike. The public education system runs 2 primary schools and 1 high school and is accessible for 1,000 students per day.
The aim of SCAO is to supplement this public education system, focusing on free English and computer courses. It is expected up to 400 students will attend classes every day. The centre will also become a community hub implementing community development projects which aim to improve water supply, organise healthcare courses and build sanitary facilities.
